The Tapuat Child and Family Support Hub, located in Larsos area in Lesvos, provides a holistic package of services, since its operation in March 2018. The Centre provides a safe space for vulnerable children and women, where they can participate in activities, socialize, learn, and express their feelings and at the same time receive non formal education, protection and psychosocial support.
Services being offered in the current programme are:
Essential care of food, clean drinking water and wash facilities for refugees and vulnerable communities in Lesvos since 2018
The staff at the Centre create non-formal educational and recreational activities for children, providing lessons and opportunities to play, draw, sing, act, and play sports
Adults are also given the opportunity to learn Greek, English and German
As a female friendly space, the Centre helps young women aged 18 and above with psychosocial support, gender-based violence prevention and care
Families come together and cook and share meals at the Centre
Volunteers for the Centre also educate people on hygiene standards and habits, particularly for young people, people with special needs and the elderly
Parents are given lessons on how to better communicate with their children and at times hostile surroundings
Since 2018, the Centre has been very important to the daily lives of the residents of Lesvos RIC, offering a brief escape from the bleak reality of an asylum seeker residing in the Moria, and later Mavrovouni RIC. The Centre has offered relief, entertainment, and education to more than 4.500 beneficiaries during its four years of operation.
